Is it just me.....

....or do the Lakers seem to play to the level of their competition? This team always seems to beat the teams they need to beat, i.e., Western teams headed to the playoffs. Yet when they play the teams that tend to be the worse teams in the conference, they come out flat and don't seem to give a sh*t. It's almost like they don't take them seriously. Most times they wake up in the second half, sometimes they sleepwalk through the entire game. It doesn't especially worry me, since they still play well against teams they may face in the playoffs, but it is none the less a concern. This may not be just a Laker problem. Anyone feel the same way about your favorite team?

Is it just me.....

I think what you are witnessing is typical of all sports but perhaps a little more noticeable in hoops. During a long season it is nearly impossible to maintain the level of intensity necessary to win games day in and day out. Every team has some bona fide players and with only 5 on the court, a hot hand can make the difference when a top team gets to feeling a little sluggish. Its a lot easier to keep  a sense of urgency when you are playing another top team, so the let downs are generally against a bottom feeder. They are at least more noticeable if not more prevalent. Every team seems to go through this. Just look at the Pistons/Knicks game last night at the Palace on a night when they honored the top 30 players from the last 50 years. A big emotional night and the Pistons slept through the entire game. The Pistons had already sewn up the 2 seed in the east and really don't have anything at stake through the rest of the season. Its tough getting up for games that don't matter.

Is it just me.....

Thank you for your input!

I suppose you are correct. It just seems to me that these are supposed to be professional athletes, and I guess it doesn't seem right that they allow such things to happen. In theory, they should be mentally tougher than that. I also realize that every team has their "thorn". Other team (or teams) that no matter how bad they are, always get up for one particular team. The Trailblazers have been that thorn for the Lakers for some time now. It's just getting old.
